STUDENT AUDITIONS MISSION STATEMENT
As an expression of the goals of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, the NATS Student Auditions:
Inspire and encourage students and teachers to continue their dedication to, and growth in, the art of singing
Create a collegial and supportive atmosphere that encourages excellent artistic singing
Provide constructive, written feedback from a panel of experienced and impartial adjudicators
Recognize and honor outstanding performances

Updates: Audition Requirements (2021/2022)
- ALL High School categories require ONLY 2 SONGS.
- All repertoire must be performed from memory with the exception of Oratorio, Mass, Requiem, and Cantata Arias. Singers may hold music scores for these types of arias as is traditional performance practice.
ONLINE AUDITIONS
- Registration and Adjudication via AuditionWare
- Students will record a video for each song; teachers will upload their videos to AuditionWare
- Choose one song for each student to present should they place as a finalist.
- Adjudication will take place over one week. Adjudicators will view and comment on each audition via Auditionware. Teachers will be able to download the comments from Auditionware to share with their students.
- Honors Concert featuring 1st place winner videos will be held over Zoom. Links to 2nd place, 3rd place and Honorable Mention videos will be shared in the program for friends and loved ones to view. Attendance is not mandatory, but encouraged.
Who Can Audition?
Students who are currently studying with a NATS San Diego Chapter member in good standing (National and SD Chapter dues paid in full by registration) may participate in the Student Auditions.
ADJUDICATION - All teachers who submit students to the Student Auditions are expected to adjudicate. Teachers will have one week to complete this process via Auditionware. If a teacher is unable to adjudicate, they must submit a $40 non-attendance fee.

NATS CODE OF ETHICS
It is unethical to claim as a pupil one having studied less than eight months with the present teacher except where there has been no previous training. If a student has studied with a teacher less than eight months, then the teacher must list the former teacher on the student’s application form.

- LEGAL NOTICE: By checking this box, you give Chapters, Districts and Regions of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) permission to post or publish on NATS social media platforms any photographs or videos that you submit or are taken of you at NATS Student Auditions and NATS National Student Auditions events. All photographs and videos taken at NATS Student and National Student Auditions events become the exclusive property of NATS.
Below, please find a description of our Video Use Policy for the Student Auditions:
- During the adjudication process, videos can only be accessed by the three adjudicators in your category and the Auditions Coordinator via AuditionWare, which is password protected.
- If holding a “live” Zoom Honors Concert, a link to the concert and the concert program, including links to 2nd, 3rd and Honorable Mention winners' videos, will be sent to NATS SD members and adjudicators only. Winners are welcome to share the links with friends and family members so those people can join the concert via Zoom. Only people with the link can join the Zoom Concert.
- A recording of the Zoom Honors concert and a copy of the program will be available in the password protected section of the NATS SD website.
- If a singer does not want their video posted to our private site as part of the Zoom Honors Concert, we will celebrate that singer without featuring their video.
- Students may place regardless of whether or not they elect to have their video shared.

This award is open to singers in High School through Adult divisions. Singers will present one classical treatment of a song by a Black/Indigenous/Person of Color composer as part of their required repertoire. Suggested resources:
Pauline Tweed Memorial SPARROW AWARD FOR SACRED SONG - SPRING
A gift from the Tweed Family, this special award is open to singers in High School through Adult divisions. Students wishing to be considered for this prize will include a sacred selection as part of their required repertoire.
